Not included, quoted separately

  • Concrete furniture, benches and seats
  • Steps, walls and other vertical faces
  • Edges hard against cabinetry or skirting
  • Small or fiddly areas such as shower bases and niches
  • Crack repair and patching beyond minor filling

What moves the price

  • Higher: full stone exposure, lots of small rooms and edges, a soft or patched slab, tight timeframes.
  • Lower: one open area, a slab poured for polishing, three-phase power on site.

Area is part of the price, but only part. Two floors the same size can be very different jobs. When two quotes are far apart, it is usually because one is quoting a light grind and seal and the other a full polish - even if both say polished concrete. We quote the job, not a rate: the figures below are what our jobs typically work out at.

What is charged on top

  • Travel: priced on the job location.
  • Generator: $165 per day where there is no three-phase power.
  • Minimum job: $3,300 including GST, plus travel. A small floor still takes a full day - set-up, every grit step and sealing.
  • Concrete furniture, steps, walls and other vertical faces, and small fiddly areas are quoted separately.

The finish

Every step of shine is more passes of the machine. A matte honed floor takes fewer steps than a satin polish, and a high-gloss polish more again - to 1500 grit, or 3000 for the finest finish. Time on site is the biggest part of the price, so the finish you choose matters most.

How much stone you want to see

A full stone exposure means grinding deeper, which takes longer and wears more diamond tooling than a light, salt-and-pepper grind.

Area and layout

  • Small jobs cost more for their size. Setting up, travelling and sealing take the same time on a small floor as a big one.
  • Lots of rooms, hallways and corners mean more edge work by hand, which is slower than open floor.
  • Steps, nosings and set-downs add hand work.

The slab itself

A new slab poured for polishing is the most predictable. An existing slab may need glue or coatings removed, cracks repaired, and patches filled before any polishing starts. Those are usually quoted separately once we have seen the floor.

Power and access

Our machines run on three-phase power. If the site does not have it, we bring a generator, which is charged on top. Upstairs work, tight access and travel distance also affect the price.

How to get quotes you can compare

  • Ask every quote to state the finish by how much it shines and how much stone shows, not just 'polished'.
  • Ask what grit the floor will be taken to, and whether sealing and a burnish are included.
  • Ask what is excluded: edges, glue removal, crack repair, generator.
  • Ask whether a sample area on your own slab is part of the job, so the finish is agreed before the whole floor is done.

The most accurate quote comes from plans, early. Send the drawings and the finish you have in mind, and we will price it before the slab is poured - when changes still cost nothing.

Questions about cost

How much does polished concrete cost per square metre on the Sunshine Coast?

On a 100 m² ground-floor floor, including GST: about $59-$73 per m² burnished, $89-$109 grind and seal, $119-$145 honed, $163-$200 polished to 800 grit (satin) and $193-$236 polished to 1500 grit (gloss). Small floors cost more per m², large open floors less. Travel is priced on location.

What is the minimum charge for polished concrete?

$3,300 including GST, plus travel. A small floor still takes a full day: setting up, every grit step and sealing take the same time on 15 m² as on 50 m².

Is it cheaper to polish a new slab or an existing floor?

A new slab poured for polishing is the cheapest and most predictable. An existing bare slab usually costs 5-12% more, and one with tiles, glue, paint or epoxy to remove 15-30% more, before any crack repair.

Do you charge for a generator?

Our grinders run on three-phase power. Where there is none on site we bring a generator, at $165 per day including GST.

How long does polishing a concrete floor take?

For 100 m²: about 2.5 days for grind and seal, 3.5 for honed, 4.5 for polished to 800 and 5.5 for polished to 1500, including a return visit to seal. More rooms, edges and stairs add time.

Are the prices including GST?

Yes. Every price on this page and in the calculator includes GST. Quotes show the amount before and after GST.

Why do polished concrete quotes vary so much?

Usually because they are not quoting the same finish. A light grind and seal and a full polish to 1500 grit can both be called polished concrete. Compare quotes by how much the floor shines, how much stone shows, and what is excluded.

Do you price builder and commercial floors?

Yes. Floors over 300 m² for builders, commercial clients and councils are priced on volume, so the rate per m² comes down. Send plans for a priced quote.
