Trip-hazard grinding

Where a footpath panel or slab has lifted at a joint, the raised edge is ground back with diamond tooling to a gradual slope. The panel stays where it is, the path stays open, and the hazard is gone in minutes rather than days.

What you see. A smooth, gently sloped strip of ground concrete across the joint. It is lighter than the weathered path around it at first and tones down over a few months.

Where it suits. Council footpaths and shared paths, school and campus grounds, body corporate driveways and walkways, shopping centre and carpark paths, and slabs inside buildings where a joint has lifted.

What to know. Grinding fixes lips. It does not fix a panel that is broken, sinking or rocking: those need replacing, and we mark them on the register so your asset team can plan the work. Each slope is ground to the gradient your inspection standard asks for.

Working with councils and commercial sites

Dust controlled at the source

Grinding with H-class extraction connected, or wet methods where suited, in line with Queensland's code of practice for respirable crystalline silica. Operators are trained and fit-tested for respiratory protection.

Safe work, documented

A safe work method statement for every job, site-specific risk assessment, and pedestrian management on public paths. Traffic control is engaged through an accredited provider where a road or lane is affected.

Reporting you can audit

Photos before and after, locations, quantities and any defects found, delivered with the invoice. On maintenance programs, a running register by street or site.

Service area. Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast, Noosa and Tewantin, Somerset, Gympie, South Burnett and Kingaroy.

Questions

Is grinding cheaper than replacing the panel?

Usually by a long way. There is no break-out, formwork, pour or cure time, and the path does not close. Replacement is the right call only when the panel itself is broken, sinking or rocking.

How high a lip can be ground?

Most lips up to a few centimetres. Past that, the slope gets long and replacing the panel can be better value. We say which on the survey.

Will the path need to close?

No. A short section is coned off around each location while we work, and pedestrians pass around it.

Do we get a record for our asset register?

Yes. Every location is logged with photos before and after, lip height and position, delivered as a spreadsheet with the invoice.
